Adams Construction Company is one of the oldest asphalt paving firms in Virginia. Since 1946, Adams has participated in the construction of every interstate throughout Virginia and most of the primary highways. Under general supervision of a Maintenance Shop superintendent, a Mechanic will perform a variety of manual or semi‑skilled tasks to maintain Dump Trucks, Service Trucks and Heavy Equipment such as road building equipment.

• Cleans, greases and assists in setting up, adjusting, repairing various types of off road/on road equipment and motor vehicles.
• May operate any equipment on a temporary basis for troubleshooting and adjustment analysis.
• Manipulate hand and power tools to perform maintenance adjustments.
• Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
• Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
• Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
• Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
• Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure they are working properly.
• Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
• Attach test instruments to equipment, and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
• Rebuild gas or diesel engines.
• Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
• Process written and oral analysis reports for record keeping.
• Work independently in the absence of supervision and maintain a cooperative working relationship with coworkers and the general public.

• The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
• The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
• The ability to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
• The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
• The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
• The ability to detect or tell the differences between sounds that vary in pitch and loudness.
• The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.

• High School diploma or GED.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
• CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Minimum five (5) years experience.
