A Commercial Kitchen Equipment Repair Technician diagnoses, installs, repairs, and maintains restaurant appliances such as ovens, refrigerators, fryers, and dishwashers. They perform preventative maintenance, order parts, and ensure equipment complies with safety regulations. Key requirements include technical proficiency in electricity, plumbing, or HVAC, a valid driver's license, and strong troubleshooting skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnostics & Repair:
    Troubleshoot and fix commercial cooking, refrigeration, and warewashing equipment.
  • Preventative Maintenance:
    Perform routine inspections, cleaning, and maintenance on HVAC units, fryers, and refrigeration to prevent breakdowns.
  • Documentation:
    Maintain detailed logs of repairs, parts inventory, and service reports.
  • Customer Service:
    Communicate with restaurant management regarding repair status and provide service updates.
  • Safety Compliance:
    Ensure all work adheres to OSHA and safety regulations.
Job Requirements
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Experience with electrical, refrigeration (HVAC), or gas systems.
  • Tools:
    Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment (e.g., multimeter).
  • Physical Stamina:
    Ability to lift over 50 lbs and work in tight or hot/cold spaces.
  • Licenses &

    Experience:

    Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and typically 1-5+ years of experience.
  • Certifications:

    CFESA (Commercial Food Equipment Service Association) or NATE certifications are often preferred.
Equipment Worked On
  • Hot Side:
    Ovens, ranges, griddles, fryers, steamers.
  • Cold Side:
    Coolers, freezers, ice machines.
  • Warewashing:
    Dishwashers and waste disposals.
Typical Working Conditions
  • Frequent travel to client locations in a service vehicle.
  • Work environments include restaurants, hospitals, and cafeteria kitchens.
  • Requires standing, kneeling, and crawling for extended periods.
