Position Summary
The Earthmoving Shop Technician is responsible for servicing and repairing equipment, working both independently and as part of a team. The candidate must be able to evaluate and repair earth‑moving equipment, complete on‑job training, classroom instruction, and e‑learning. The Technician will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding efficient solutions. Advancement in classification is based on attitude, skill level, and performance.
EssentialResponsibilities & Expectations
- Adhere to and follow all applicable safety standards and procedures.
- Plan and perform minor repairs using correct tools and procedures.
- Perform tasks on engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical components: removal, installation, disassembly, reassembly, and minor adjustments for service.
- Conduct preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrate proper use of service information systems.
- Order and return parts for assigned jobs in a timely manner.
- Test and adjust components for optimal performance.
- Work independently in the shop as required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Maintain a productive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner that upholds the values of the Thompson Tractor brand.
- Demonstrate positive relationships with customers, clients, vendors, coworkers, and management.
- Maintain proper and regular attendance.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience- Minimum of one (1) year of mechanical repair experience, or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education.
- Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills.
- Med Card and CDL preferred.
- MVR required.
- Intermediate engine, transmission, hydraulic, and electrical diagnostic and repair skills.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Area‑specific technical training.
- OSHA and MSHA required training.
- Vendor technical sites (Infocast, Liftnet, SIMSi, etc.).
- Work typically performed in a Service Department shop.
- Exposure to physical risk and all‑weather conditions.
- Standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time often required.
- Speaking, listening, writing, typing, reaching, kneeling, grasping, stooping.
- Lifting up to 75 lbs.
- Climbing ladders and earth‑moving equipment.
- Crawling under equipment.
- Material handling/lifting, chemicals, construction, cranes and hoisting, noise, eye hazards, slips and falls, moving machinery, stationary machinery, respiratory hazards, lacerations, amputation, strains and sprains, heat exhaustion.
