The Technical Accounting Manager is responsible for researching, interpreting, and applying U.S. GAAP to complex transactions and ensuring accurate financial reporting across the organization. This role serves as the subject‑matter expert on technical accounting matters, supports financial statement preparation, and partners closely with FP&A, Legal, Tax, and external auditors.
Key Responsibilities Technical Accounting & Policy- Research and interpret U.S. GAAP and SEC guidance related to complex transactions (e.g., revenue recognition, equity‑based compensation, business combinations, consolidations, leases, financial instruments).
- Draft and maintain accounting policies, white papers, and technical memoranda.
- Assess accounting implications of new or proposed transactions and provide recommendations to management.
- Monitor new accounting standards and lead implementation efforts (including adoption memos and process changes).
- Support the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements (10‑Q, 10‑K, or equivalent).
- Assist with footnote disclosures and management discussion related to technical accounting matters.
- Review journal entries and reconciliations related to complex or non‑routine transactions.
- Partner with Legal, FP&A, Tax, and business teams on transaction structuring and accounting outcomes.
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors on technical accounting topics.
- Support internal controls over financial reporting, including SOX documentation and testing.
- Improve accounting processes and documentation related to complex accounting areas.
- Mentor and provide guidance to senior accountants and accounting staff.
- Support special projects as needed (M&A, carve‑outs, system implementations).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA required (or in progress, depending on company preference)
- 6–10+ years of accounting experience, including public accounting and/or technical accounting
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Experience preparing technical accounting memoranda
- Big 4 or national public accounting experience
- SEC reporting or public company experience
- Experience in asset management, insurance, financial services, or complex multi‑entity structures
- Prior exposure to M&A accounting
- Strong analytical and research skills
- Ability to translate technical guidance into practical business solutions
- Comfortable working with auditors and senior leadership
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
