Licensed Diesel Truck Technician/Mechanic I - $5K Sign On Bonus

Location:

100 Thornhill Dr, Dartmouth, NS, B3B 1S3

Shift: Monday to Thursday 3pm–11:30pm, Friday 1pm–9:30pm

Pay: $40–$42 per hour

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, licensed diesel truck technician who can diagnose, overhaul, adjust, and repair motor truck and trailer equipment with minimal supervision, ensuring timely and efficient maintenance.

Major Responsibilities
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document them on repair orders
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety
  • Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or confirm proper operation
  • Carry out duties with little or no supervision and in a timely, efficient manner
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools including pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical components to ensure proper operating condition
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
  • Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment
  • Raise vehicles, buses, and heavy parts using hydraulic jacks or hoists
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications
  • Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials, including replacement of complete assemblies, turbochargers, and fuel system components
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisory personnel
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of practical experience with tractor‑trailer maintenance
  • Possess a provincial license such as Red Seal or 310T
  • Maintain membership or registration with relevant government agencies
  • Current driver’s license class D or class 3 with air brake certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic equipment
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work in non‑climate‑controlled conditions
  • Specialized training and experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting major components (engines, transmissions, differentials); OEM training courses preferred
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Willingness to travel within the district for customer yards, training sites, and other job sites; ability to work required schedule and location and complete employment application and reference checks
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 12 kg, frequently up to 23 kg, and occasionally up to 45 kg
  • Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Must stand, walk, sit, and speak or listen regularly; frequently use hands to finger, handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms
