Heavy Duty Mechanic / Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician – Civil Construction
Harbour Construction is looking for an experienced Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Technician to join our civil construction team in Nova Scotia.
Role OverviewOur mechanics work both in the shop and in the field supporting excavation, underground utilities, road building, trucking, and heavy civil infrastructure operations across Nova Scotia.
Responsibilities- Inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy civil construction equipment and heavy equipment fleets
- Performing preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing on heavy construction equipment
- Troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems using computerized diagnostic tools and software
- Rebuilding or replacing major components including engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and final drives
- Responding to field service calls and equipment breakdowns on active construction sites
- Completing service reports and maintenance documentation accurately
- Supporting operators and project teams to minimize downtime and keep projects moving safely and efficiently
- Working safely in both shop and field environments while following all company safety procedures and standards
- Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification required
- Previous experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Technician, Diesel Mechanic, or Field Service Mechanic
- Experience working on heavy equipment fleets in civil construction, road building, or heavy equipment repair environments
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities
- Experience working with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, electrical systems, and computerized diagnostics
- Ability to work independently in field conditions when required
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with clean driving record

Work environment:
This role includes both shop‑based and field‑based work year‑round on active civil construction sites. Moderate weather, noise, vibration, mud, dust, and active construction operations may occur. Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required depending on operational needs.
