Overview
Under general supervision, functions as a lead or resource person for clerical employees, utilizing experience-based knowledge of unit/department operations to assign work, establish work schedules, and review the work of others. Regularly performs clerical duties such as gathering data, preparing reports, taking messages, and typing, while embodying the organization’s values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
ResponsibilitiesFunctions as a lead or resource person for unit/department clerical personnel; assigns and reviews work, assists in orientation and training of new employees, and coordinates the flow of work through an assigned area of responsibility. Provides input into the development of work procedures and maintains daily time schedules. Monitors and evaluates the work processed by other clerical employees, ensuring that established standards of accuracy are maintained.
Orders and inventories expendable office supplies for the unit/department. Assists subordinate clerical employees with complex and/or sensitive work-related matters, explains and instructs new procedures, report formats, codes, etc. Regularly performs a variety of clerical duties, including researching files and records, answering phones, compiling reports, studying charts, billing for unit/department charges, maintaining office equipment, completing forms and records, and typing. Operates standard and/or automated office equipment such as a calculator, photocopier, adding machine, microfilm viewer, typewriter, and an online computer terminal.
The level of typing skills required is not that of a correspondence typist.
Basic Knowledge:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Ability to operate standard and automated office equipment, including an online computer terminal. Good math skills for statistical analysis, calculating and verifying report totals. Administrative ability to function as a lead or resource person for clerical employees and coordinate their activities.
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, six to twelve months of progressively responsible experience familiar with all unit/department functions.
Physical Requirements
Normal office environment; requires standing, bending, and sitting; sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use a computer keyboard and other common office equipment.
Independent ActionPerforms independently within the department’s policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to the supervisor for clarification of departmental policies and procedures.
Supervisory ResponsibilityFunctions as a lead or resource person for clerical employees.
Pay Range$22.04–$36.37
