Round the Bend Farm (RTB), a Center for Restorative Community, is located in South Dartmouth, MA. RTB operates a 115‑acre working farm and educational non‑profit dedicated to cultivating, educating, and empowering people of all ages. We are seeking a passionate, experienced, full‑time Farmer & Distribution Assistant for our Manifest Love program. Applications are accepted until January 20, 2025. Anticipated start date is late March/early April 2025.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As the Manifest Love (ML) Farmer & Distribution Assistant, you will collaborate closely with the Manifest Love team to manage all aspects of vegetable production, land management, packing, and distribution. The role requires a highly motivated, energetic individual passionate about RTB’s mission and local food systems. You will keep farm work and the distribution process running efficiently, while supporting the overall mission of RTB.

Responsibilities
  • Work under the direction of the Manifest Love Farming Manager and Manifest Love Distribution Coordinator, coordinating with the RTB team and community volunteers.
  • Perform seed sowing, greenhouse and nursery care, soil & field preparation, transplanting, weeding, and cultivation.
  • Care for perennials and trees, and carry out harvesting, seed saving, propagation, and food storage.
  • Process food—including washing, bagging, and preparing produce for distribution.
  • Deliver Manifest Love food shares to partner organizations.
  • Support winter tasks such as food processing, education initiatives for the Manifest Love program, and other duties that support RTB’s multifaceted operations.
  • Act as a liaison with the RTB educational team to support tours, demonstrations, and educational activities for students and the public.
  • Participate in shared community cooking, post‑harvest processing & preservation, monthly Open Farm Days, and other farm projects & events as needed.
  • Maintain flexibility regarding work hours during high‑season periods, with a 40‑hour per week commitment.
Candidate Preferences
  • At least 1-3 seasons of agricultural production experience (farmwork, apprenticeship/internship, campus farm, or relevant farming/gardening exposure).
  • Commitment to working in the scope of RTB’s mission (interest in environmental and social justice issues related to local and global food systems).
  • Desire to respect & care for the health of soil, plants, animals and humans.
  • Desire to participate in and build a local, vibrant community.
  • Persevering work ethic and ability to complete directed tasks in a timely, efficient fashion.
  • Focused attention to detail and quality.

  • Proficiency (or willingness to learn) in the use of certain tools/farm equipment (harvest knives, shovels, row covers, drip lines, cultivation tools, etc.).
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as hand weeding and bagging of certain crops.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Spanish or Portuguese proficiency not necessary but highly valued.
  • Open mind, open heart and an open palate.
  • Optional experience in communal living situations for those interested in potential RTB housing.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Full‑time annual wages: $34,320 (40 hours per week).
  • Total compensation package range (including benefits): approximately $56,000 – $70,000; optional housing available.
  • Pension Plan
    : RTB contributes 10% of gross salary, fully vested from day one. $3,432 per fiscal year 2025.
  • Health & Dental Insurance (90‑day waiting period). RTB pays 75% of premiums for first three years; after three years pays 100%. $7,850.79 per fiscal year 2025.
