Job Description

The School Counselor supports the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development of all students. Reporting to the principal or campus administrator, the Counselor provides direct counseling services, coordinates student support systems, and collaborates with teachers, families, and school leaders to ensure students receive the support needed to succeed in school and beyond.

The Counselor plays a key role in fostering a safe and supportive school environment by addressing student needs proactively, implementing prevention programs, and supporting intervention efforts when concerns arise. This role requires a compassionate, organized, and student-centered professional who can build strong relationships, maintain confidentiality, use data to guide student support, and contribute to a positive school culture.

Key Activities
  • Provide individual and small-group counseling to support student social-emotional needs
  • Support students experiencing academic, behavioral, or personal challenges
  • Respond to student concerns, crises, and referrals in a timely and professional manner
  • Promote student well-being and positive decision-making
  • Coordinate and monitor student intervention plans and support services
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and student support teams to address student needs
  • Support implementation of MTSS, behavior interventions, and student success plans
  • Maintain accurate documentation and student records
  • Communicate with families regarding student concerns and support plans
  • Provide families with resources to support student success
  • Facilitate meetings related to student support when needed
  • Implement school wide social-emotional learning and character development initiatives
  • Provide guidance lessons, workshops, or activities that support student development
  • Promote a positive school climate and student well-being
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings, PD, and coaching sessions
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all student services and documentation requirements
  • Uphold all school policies, procedures, and professional expectations

Success in Year 1:
  • 90%+ of student support referrals are addressed and documented in a timely manner
  • Student intervention and support plans are implemented with fidelity
  • Positive feedback from staff and families regarding responsiveness and student support
  • Meets highly effective on professionalism, i.e. arriving on time to work, submitting lesson plans and data on time

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Master's degree in School counseling or related field preferred
  • Valid or eligible Florida school counselor certification
