Definition
Under general supervision performs work of routine difficulty doing clerical tasks of a well defined and routine nature; and performs related work as required. This position is located at The River's Edge and is part of the Parks and Recreation Department. Starting hourly rate of pay $17.97 for 6 months, $18.37 thereafter. The typical schedule for this position includes the following shifts:
Monday through Thursday: 11:00 AM – 6:30 PM. Friday and Saturday: one of two shifts, either 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM or 3:30 PM – 8:30 PM. Average weekly hours 18-29 hours. Performs assigned clerical duties in conformance with well defined procedures or under close supervision and guidance; picks up, opens and routes mail, memoranda and other correspondence according to specified procedures; uses a telephone in receiving and transmitting calls and messages; provides general information to callers. Types general correspondence and reports, standardized forms and routine file and index cards; attends a public service counter to provide routine information and services.
Greets guests and provides excellent customer service. Responsible for cash handling and processing customer transactions accurately and efficiently. May operate a variety of office machines (typewriter, computer terminal, point of sale system, or calculator) in routine situations. Other duties as assigned.
Six months experience in the performance of office clerical duties or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Requires typing or computer terminal proficiency at 35 words per minute. Must pass a background check as prescribed by the City of Davenport.
Knowledge and SkillsGood knowledge of English grammar, spelling and basic arithmetic. Some knowledge of standard office practices and procedures. Working skill in following oral and written instructions. Performing routine arithmetic computations. Accessing, inputting and retrieving information from a computer. Considerable skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with associates and the public.
