Job Summary / Description
Do you have the energy to lead a weekend morning team and the drive to uncover the stories that matter most to the Quad Cities? We’re looking for a versatile Anchor/Reporter who can own the desk on Saturday and Sunday mornings and hit the streets as a powerhouse reporter during the week. This isn’t just about reading a teleprompter; it’s about leading a team, producing with purpose, and hosting meaningful community conversations that reflect the diverse experiences of our viewers.
If you’re a team player who thrives in a multi-platform newsroom and wants to make a real impact—both on‑air and online we want to talk to you.
- Lead the weekend morning team:
Own the anchor desk on weekend mornings with energy and authority, setting the tone for the Quad Cities' day. - Report with urgency:
Spend three days a week in the field, uncovering original stories and delivering compelling reports across TV, digital, and social platforms. - Produce with purpose:
Use your producing skills to collaborate with and support the weekend producer, ensuring every newscast is tight, informative, and engaging. - Host "Real Conversations":
Lead KWQCs' weekly show discussing the Black Experience in the Quad Cities, leading thoughtful and impactful community dialogues. - Own the digital space:
Drive engagement by sharing your stories and connecting with the audience on social media and KWQC’s digital platforms. - Collaborate across the newsroom:
Work closely with producers, photographers, and digital staff to ensure our coverage is cohesive and first‑to‑market.
- Ability to help produce/guide the producer on what to put in a newscast every day.
- Able to shoot, write, and edit your own stories.
- Pitch stories that matter to the community.
- Source your own contacts for story ideas.
- Ability to work ahead so you are always pre‑planning story ideas.
- Killer news judgment:
You know what stories matter to Davenport and the surrounding communities and how to tell them with empathy and urgency. - Team‑first attitude:
You’re a builder who wants to help elevate our weekend morning show and support your teammates. - A heart for the community:
You’re passionate about local storytelling and eager to contribute to "Real Conversations" and other community‑focused initiatives.
