Duties & Responsibilities:
Essential Functions of Position, Major Responsibilities, Summary of Key Duties, Special Assignments, Relationships
- Supervision of all phases of the volleyball program--planning, strategy, instruction in fundamentals, and so forth
- Responsible for care and issuance of all volleyball equipment used by the team
- Communicate with the high school coaching staff(s) and attend meetings or mini clinics at high school(s) to ensure continuity in the DSCD 7-12 grade volleyball programs
- Understand, monitor and enforce district academic standards, policies and eligibility requirements
- Develop athletes to their fullest potential, starting with the basic fundamentals of volleyball and progressing to skills beyond what is considered average.
- Understand and promote good sportsmanship among student-athletes
- Complete required reports and record accurately and in a timely manner
- Has a thorough knowledge of and responsible for the athletic policy approved by the Board of Education
- Supervise athletes at all practices and games, as well as in the locker room and on the bus
- Must possess an enthusiastic attitude and ability to understand intermediate-aged youth in an athletic setting
- Work in cooperation with the building Activity Director and with the Director of Athletics for the Davenport Community Schools
- Other duties as assigned by administration
- Must be willing to support and implement Davenports multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics
- Successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential
- Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully

- Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
- Able to demonstrate volleyball techniques as necessary
- Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture.
- Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
- Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.

- Must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Iowa Teaching License with Coaching Endorsement
- Experience with competition/success at the state level is desired.
