Job DescriptionThe Davenport Community School District is an EEO/AA employer.
Responsibilities- Provide services to students in the areas of academic, personal/social and career development.
- Counsel students individually and in small groups.
- Teach classes in multi-grades with counseling curriculum based on the ASCA model.
- Implement a fully functioning counseling program for students in grades 9-12.
- Work with administrators to implement a building‑wide schedule.
- 504 Coordinator for assigned students – includes all aspects of 504 implementations and initiatives.
- Cooperate positively with staff, students, and families.
- Work with exceptional education students, parents, and teachers in developing IEPs.
- Encourage teacher/parent communication and community involvement.
- Communicate with special education staffing teams and community agencies.
- Refer students to intervention programs, academic programs, appropriate school personnel/community agencies, and other programs to ensure academic success and personal well‑being.
- Interpret student records/transcripts.
- Create and input schedules for students in Infinite Campus.
- Participate in parent/teacher conferences.
- Attend IEPs as appropriate.
- Use data to guide the decision‑making process and ensure the counseling program meets the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.
- Serve all students but is specifically responsible for students in the counselor caseload.
- Conduct individual academic program planning and update 4‑yr plans as needed.
- Supervise as assigned by the principal.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills and a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students and families.
- Prepare students for graduation – scheduling, verification of graduation requirements, and total credits.
- Oversee, plan, and organize career and trades field trips.
- Coordinate Gear UP programs as needed.
- Inform students about post‑secondary options (vocational, employment, college, military, apprenticeship, etc.).
- Inform students about the advantages of higher‑level courses (Honors, AP) and Concurrent Enrollment options.
- Prepare and support students and assist staff in training for standardized testing (ISASP).
- Support/lead district initiatives around SEBH (Youth Leadership Team, PBIS, etc.).
- Participate in department’s counseling activities.
- Participate in counselor‑related school activities (college nights, senior awards, graduation, etc.).
- Be skilled in and understand MTSS or be willing to be trained/knowledgeable.
- Be skilled in and understand PBIS or be willing to be trained/knowledgeable.
- Other duties as assigned by the principal.
- Regularly sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
- Occasionally lift, move, or push items of up to 50 lbs (e.g., assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture).
- Supervise students in all types of weather.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
- Implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.
- Noise level ranges from quiet to loud.
- Work may be indoors and/or outdoors.
- Work may be in non‑air‑conditioned rooms.
- Substance‑free environment.
- Fast‑paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
- Direct responsibility for the safety, well‑being, and work output of students.
- Ability to teach and work with a diverse student population.
- Possess computer and technology skills:
Google Chrome, Infinite Campus, Wood Documents, Excel spreadsheets, Power Points.
