SPECIAL EDUCATION PARA EDUCATOR - 7 HRS (3 OPENINGS) Job Description

WAGES: $18.93;
New Hires:
Entry level rate $14.93/hr current employees refer to salary schedule. Special education differential $4.00.

• Provide research‑based social skills instruction and intervention under supervision of certified teacher.
• Be willing to attend required evening trainings or meetings during school year or summer.
• Accept feedback from specialists and special education facilitator and implement changes in instruction.
• Follow directives of classroom teacher, building administration, and district administration.
• Work with students who may be explosive and engage in physical or verbal aggression.
• Support students with learning, behavior, physical, and/or cognitive disabilities, including those diagnosed with Autism and Spectrum Disorder.
• Provide services for special education students as needed in special or general education setting.
• Under direction of special education teacher, provide academic assistance, behavior interventions, and instruction of social skills and daily living skills.
• Attend field trips with students as necessary.
• Maintain regular attendance to meet IEP services and ensure FAPE.
• Analyze situations and respond appropriately.
• Interact appropriately with all students, building staff, and cafeteria staff.
• Assist students with transportation to/from bus, restrooms, and in the community.
• Supervise students during classroom time, lunch, breakfast, field trips, and work sites.
• Work individually with one student or a small group per plan.
• Assist students with hygiene, clothing changes, and restroom use.
• Accompany students to physical education and community work sites; provide instruction, supervision, and behavior modification independently.
• Manage environment and protect students during school day.
• Follow multiple behavior plans simultaneously; implement changes as directed.
• Initiate activities for students and remain flexible with assignments.
• Climb stairs and walk long distances in building and community.
• Navigate city bus system with training.
• Do accurate data collection, graphing, and paperwork under teacher guidance.
• Remain calm and respectful during crises.
• Engage in collaborative planning and team work.
• Support Davenport’s multi‑tiered system of supports (MTSS) for behavior and academics.
• Sign vacancy notice acknowledging duties and responsibilities.
• Pass Medicaid Fraud background check prior to hire; may be removed if flagged.
• Execute crisis prevention intervention strategies, including physical restraints when trained and directed.
• Accept direction from special education teachers and maintain confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk. Able to occasionally lift, move, or push items up to 50 lbs. Must supervise students in all weather conditions and meet multiple demands from people.

Noise ranges from quiet to loud. Work may be indoors or outdoors, in non‑air‑conditioned rooms. Environment is tobacco‑ and alcohol‑free, fast‑paced, with constant contact with students, staff, or the public. Direct responsibility for student safety and well‑being.

• Demonstrated ability to follow directives of certified staff.
