Behavioral Interventionist

The Davenport Community School District is an EEO/AA employer. Minimum Salary: $ 17.24/hr (Dependent on Education & Experience) The position begins at the beginning of the 2026-27 School Year.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Act in a trauma responsive manner for students in crisis utilizing specifically trained skills of de-escalation and co-regulation
  • Possess a deep knowledge of behavior and brain development, as well as psychological development to respond productively to student needs
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff to ensure a productive return to the learning environment
  • Communicate with building leaders, IEP Team members regarding student needs
  • Maintain a caseload of students with IEPs implementing evidence-based interventions
  • Under the direction of professional staff, reinforce applications of social skills that have been taught both individually and small group
  • Assist in the implementation of the Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), including modeling and coaching
  • Collaborate with team on fading plans for students with IEPs with intense behavior needs
  • Support data collection including daily behavior tracking and progress notes
  • Collaborate on a team for determining effective behavior strategies
  • Help support the implementation of classroom expectations, routines, and procedures in a variety of classroom settings
  • Open to feedback and continuous improvement as a professional
  • Possess a student-centered, empathetic mindset when working with students with significant social, emotional, behavioral disabilities
  • Serve as a liaison between students with IEP's and all adults who support the student
  • Under the direction of professional staff, complete BIP fidelity checks
  • Keep accurate, up to date records on student progress data
  • Must attend all summer, evening, and school year trainings as determined by the Building Administrator and/or Special Education Office
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements of Position:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to - sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture
  • Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather
  • Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff
  • Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting

Work Environment:

  • Noise level is quiet to loud
  • Work may be indoors and/or outdoors
  • Work may be in non-air-conditioned rooms
  • Substance-free environment
  • Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public
  • Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of student

Special Qualification Desired:

  • Successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential
  • Good attendance is mandatory for this position
  • Must possess the ability to work effectively in teams and exhibit positive interpersonal skills
  • Must understand and accept the physical risk that may be associated with working with students with behavioral issues
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Willingness to assume responsibility
  • Enjoy working with others
  • Must be proficient in technology skills necessary to complete job duties
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse student population
  • Capable of representing school in professional manner, which includes but is not limited to maintaining confidentiality, good communication skills and appropriate dress
  • Experience in working with vulnerable population desired
  • Associates degree or higher desired, high school diploma or GED required
