Davenport Community School District Teacher Position
Establish and maintain high academic expectations for all students. Establish and maintain high standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a structured, positive learning environment in the classroom and building, implementing Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports and CHAMPS strategies for all students. Collaborate with grade level team members and support teachers in planning lessons, monitoring student progress, analyzing data, modifying, and differentiating instruction as needed.
Maintain up to date progress monitoring and academic diagnostics. Use the MTSS process to support students both academically and behaviorally. Collaborate and co-teach with special education teachers/para educators in an environment that welcomes all students. Integrate technology into lessons and have a working knowledge of Microsoft, Google Suite, Chrome books, tablets, etc. Implement effective research-based strategies:
Differentiated Instruction, Think Alouds, QAR, Explicit Instruction, etc. Communicate with parents on a consistent basis regarding student progress and encourage parental involvement. Perform supervision responsibilities with a belief that all teachers are on duty at all times everywhere in the school environment including AM/PM outside duty, hall duties, lunch/recess duty by following the building PBIS procedures and expectations. Participate in IEP's MTSS meetings, Collaborative Teacher Teams, Committees, and parent conferences.
Be an active participant in building level professional development focused on MTSS, Character Strong, CHAMPS, PBIS, Collaborative Teacher Teams, effective interventions, and incorporate strategies in the classroom. Willingness to obtain training in areas that are in need of being nurtured. Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.
Perform all other duties as assigned. Successful candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential. Must be willing to support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties. Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture. Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather. Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.
Noise level is quiet to loud. Work may be indoors and/or outdoors. Work may be in non-air-conditioned rooms. Substance-free environment. Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public. Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of student.
