Wages: $18.93 hourly. New hires earn an entry level rate of $14.93/hr current employees in the bargaining unit refer to the applicable salary schedule. This position includes a $4.00 special education differential.
Duties & Responsibilities- Provide research‑based social skills instruction and intervention under the supervision of a certified teacher.
- Attend additional required evening trainings or meetings during the school year or summer.
- Accept feedback from specialists and special education facilitators and use it to improve instruction.
- Follow directives of classroom teacher, building administration, and district administration.
- Work with students who are explosive, physically or verbally aggressive toward others.
- Work with students with learning, behavior, physical, and/or cognitive disabilities, including those diagnosed with Autism and Spectrum Disorder.
- Provide services for special education students as needed in the special or general education setting.
- Under direction of the special education teacher, provide academic assistance, behavior interventions, and instruction of social skills and daily living skills.
- Attend field trips with students as necessary.
- Maintain regular attendance to meet services outlined in students’ IEPs and to ensure provision of free appropriate public education.
- Analyze situations and respond appropriately.
- Interact appropriately with all students and assist in multiple settings (classroom, cafeteria, hallway, etc.).
- Assist students with restrooms, hygiene, changing clothes, and other daily living needs.
- Accompany students to and from the bus and to community/work sites, providing instruction, supervision, and behavior modification.
- Perform accurate data collection, graphing, and complete necessary paperwork efficiently.
- Be flexible and adaptable to changing duties and schedules, following directives from principal, teacher, or facilitator.
- Maintain strong interpersonal skills, build rapport with culturally diverse students, and demonstrate patience, dependability, and responsibility.
- Support the district’s multi‑tiered system of supports for behavior and academics.
- Pass required Medicaid Fraud background checks before hire.
- Physically restrain students if trained and authorized.
- Remain calm and respectful during student crises and collaborate with the team on planning.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk. The employee may need to lift, move, or push items up to 50 lbs, supervise students in all weather conditions, and implement crisis prevention strategies including physical restraints and escorting.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment ranges from quiet to loud settings, indoors and outdoors, in non‑air‑conditioned rooms. The environment is fast‑paced, involves constant contact with students, staff, or the public, and requires direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of students.
Special Qualifications Desired- Ability to work with students with significant academic, behavioral, and social skill difficulties.
- A genuine concern for student success and a willingness to help them succeed.
- Demonstrated ability to follow directives of certified staff.
