Job Purpose

The Social Studies Teacher is dedicated to fostering students' understanding of social, cultural, political, and economic concepts while promoting critical thinking and global awareness. They are committed to the academic development, well‑being, and safety of students, contributing to the overall success of the school.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement engaging instructional lesson plans aligned with state standards and curriculum frameworks for Social Studies.
  • Incorporate diverse teaching strategies and resources to promote student engagement and comprehension of historical events, geographical concepts, government structures, and societal issues.
  • Utilize primary and secondary sources, multimedia materials, and technology to enhance learning experiences and encourage inquiry‑based exploration.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that respects diverse perspectives and encourages active participation.
  • Assess student learning through various formative and summative assessments and provide timely feedback to support academic growth.
  • Integrate literacy, critical thinking, and analytical skills development into Social Studies instruction.
  • Facilitate discussions, debates, and collaborative projects that promote civic engagement, empathy, and informed decision‑making.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align Social Studies curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and behavior, and communicate effectively with students, parents, and guardians.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance content knowledge, instructional skills, and cultural competency.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality guidelines regarding student information and professional matters.
  • Promote a positive school culture and foster relationships with students, families, and the broader community.
  • Participate in school‑wide initiatives, committees, and events as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications,

Education and Experience

Necessary and desirable qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Must have a passion for improving educational opportunities for urban students and for building a strong, mission‑driven organization.
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to support students in achieving academic goals.
  • Commitment to continued personal and professional growth, and a commitment to the company’s mission, vision, and growth.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks.
  • Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status in Social Studies or related subject area.
  • Passion for teaching Social Studies and promoting historical literacy, civic engagement, and cultural understanding.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in technology integration and instructional technology tools.
  • Has demonstrated ability to work effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Education Preferred:
    • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, with a focus on Social Studies or History preferred.
    • State certification or licensure in Social Studies education.
  • Experience Preferred:
    • Experience in designing and delivering engaging Social Studies instruction, preferably in diverse classroom settings.
Working Conditions

This role is performed in a classroom environment with occasional opportunities for off‑site educational activities or field trips related to Social Studies curriculum. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. The employee may be required to deal with students with behavioral risks.

Physical Requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity.

Supervision Received

Occasional, minimal guidance, but follows established work methods.
