Special Education Instructional Strategist I:
Mild/Moderate
The Davenport Community School District is an EEO/AA employer. This position is split: 50% Special Education Strat I:
Mild/Moderate & 50% Title I Interventionist.
Duties include:
Special
Education:
- Attend all required trainings by special education department and/or District.
- Implement feedback to improve instruction.
- Provide instruction based upon the Iowa Core Standards.
- Use data to drive instruction and make educational decisions.
- Complete all paperwork appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure student progress.
- Implement services outlined in each individual's IEP with fidelity.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
- Identify students' needs and make appropriate referrals.
- Communicate effectively with parents.
- Engage in collaborative work and contribute to team planning.
- Participate in the co-teaching process with general education teachers.
- Support instruction through an Individual Education Plan for students with special needs.
- Provide individual and small group research-based instruction.
- Develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction.
- Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction.
- Translate lesson plans and activities into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation.
- Develop individualized educational plans that meet State and Federal Guidelines.
- Foster cooperative social behavior through activities and group projects.
- Utilize technology in the delivery of instruction.
- Evaluate students' academic and social growth.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records.
- Establish, implement, and enforce rules and procedures for appropriate classroom behavior.
- Implement effective individualized behavior management strategies.
- Attend professional in-service activities and teacher training workshops.
- Communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with parents, colleagues, supervisors, and students.
- Plan and coordinate the work of educational assistants and other professional support staff.
- Supervise students in out of classroom activities.
- Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language.
- Participate as a collaborative teacher team member.
- Ability to assess the strengths, needs, interests, and aspirations of their students.
- Ability to use a variety of media and technology to enhance their communications.
- Strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students.
- Good attendance and punctuality are a must.
Title I Interventionist:
- Provide services to Title I identified students only.
- Report to Trinity Lutheran School.
- Implement Davenport Community School District reading curriculum.
- Attend and provide all reading professional development.
- Participate fully as a productive team member.
- Implement building and district elementary and middle level initiatives.
- Demonstrate effective communication with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Willingness to participate in staff development, utilize collaborative teacher teams.
- Able to implement a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of a diverse learning community.
- Ability to establish a positive learning environment.
- Skilled, understands and utilizes MTSS or willingness to be trained/knowledgeable.
- Skilled, understands and utilizes PBIS or willingness to be trained/knowledgeable.
- Must be willing to support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.

Physical Requirements:
- Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
- Occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs.
- Supervise students in all types of weather.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
- Implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies.
Work Environment:
- Noise level is quiet to loud.
- Work may be indoors and/or outdoors.
- Work may be in non-air-conditioned rooms.
- Substance-free environment.
- Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
Special Qualification Desired:
- B.A. or B.S. degree in Education.
- Cross-cultural experience preferred.
- Special education teaching experience desired.
- Knowledge of interactive whiteboards and graphing calculators.
- Extensive computer/technology knowledge.
- Experience with middle level adolescents necessary.
- Demonstrated knowledge of differentiation of instruction necessary to meet needs of diverse student community.
