Special Education Teacher
The Davenport Community School District is an EEO/AA employer. Duties include attending all required trainings, using data to drive instruction, collaborating with general education teachers, implementing services outlined in each individual's IEP, establishing clear objectives for lessons, identifying students' needs, communicating with parents, planning and scheduling lessons, resolving student behavioral and academic problems, engaging in collaborative work, participating in co-teaching, supporting instruction through an Individual Education Plan, providing research-based instruction, developing instructional materials, instructing students in citizenship and basic subject matter, developing lesson plans, planning activities for a balanced program of instruction, preparing for classes, developing individualized educational plans, fostering cooperative social behavior, developing in students an awareness of their worth, utilizing technology in the delivery of instruction, utilizing research-based teaching strategies, evaluating students' academic and social growth, maintaining accurate student records, establishing rules and procedures for appropriate classroom behavior, modeling and maintaining standards of responsible student behavior, implementing individualized behavior management strategies, demonstrating ability in interpreting behavior assessments, attending professional in-service activities, communicating and cooperating with parents, colleagues, supervisors, and students, planning and coordinating the work of educational assistants, supervising students in out of classroom activities, participating in faculty committees, supervising students and/or educational assistants, possessing strong inter-personal skills, ensuring each child reaches his/her full potential, and being willing to support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
Physical requirements include sitting, standing, speaking, hearing, seeing, walking, lifting, moving, or pushing items of 50 lbs, supervising students in all types of weather, meeting multiple demands, implementing Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, and working in a fast-paced atmosphere. Work environment includes noise level from quiet to loud, work indoors and/or outdoors, work in non-air-conditioned rooms, and a substance-free environment. Special qualification desired includes a B.A. or B.S. degree in Education, cross-cultural experience, special education teaching experience, willingness to accept supervisory duties, understanding of confidentiality, experience with Project Lead the Way (PLTW) or willingness to be trained, and strong interpersonal skills.
