Special Education Teacher

Duties include attending all required trainings, providing instruction based upon the Iowa Core Standards, using data to drive instruction, collaborating with general education teachers, implementing services outlined in each individual's IEP, establishing clear objectives for all lessons, identifying students' needs, making appropriate referrals, developing strategies for individual education plans, communicating with parents, conferring with other staff members, engaging in collaborative work, participating in co-teaching process, supporting instruction through an Individual Education Plan, providing individual and small group research-based instruction, developing and using instructional materials, instructing students in citizenship and basic subject matter, developing lesson plans and instructional materials, planning and conducting activities for a balanced program of instruction, preparing for assigned classes, developing individualized educational plans, fostering cooperative social behavior, developing in each student an awareness of his/her worth, utilizing technology in the delivery of instruction, utilizing research-based teaching strategies, evaluating students' academic and social growth, maintaining accurate and complete student records, establishing, implementing, and enforcing rules and procedures for appropriate classroom behavior, modeling and maintaining standards of responsible student behavior, implementing effective individualized behavior management strategies and curriculum accommodations, demonstrating substantial ability in interpreting behavior assessments, attending professional in-service activities and teacher training workshops, communicating, collaborating, and cooperating with parents, colleagues, supervisors, and students, planning and coordinating the work of educational assistants and other professional support staff, supervising students in out of classroom activities, participating in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities, possessing strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students, ensuring each child reaches his/her full potential, and good attendance and punctuality.
