• Demonstrating the ability to teach and coach young people in the fundamentals and techniques.
• Demonstrating the appropriate competitive drive to develop and maintain a strong program.
• Demonstrating a desire to constantly improve the program and overall sports program at Central High School.
• Demonstrating the ability to motivate student-athletes to be the best they can be on the court and in the classroom.
• Demonstrating the ability to communicate with all stakeholders including administration, staff, students, and booster club.
• Supporting the strength and conditioning coordinator to ensure proper conditioning and weight training for student athletes.
• Providing adequate supervision before, during, and after practices/games.
• Leading by example demonstrating high character and a solid moral background.
• Promoting other programs at Central High School and encouraging participation in other activities.
• Working with Athletic Boosters in working concession stands throughout the year and attending one meeting per academic year.
• Being willing to support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
• Maintaining good attendance and punctuality to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.
• Possessing strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.

Physical requirements of the position include:

• Sitting, standing, speaking, hearing, seeing, and walking to carry out routine duties.
• Occasionally lifting, moving, or pushing items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture.
• Supervising students in all types of weather.
• Meeting multiple demands from several people and interacting with the public and other staff.
• Implementing Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.

The work environment is characterized by:

• Noise level ranging from quiet to loud.
• Work may be indoors and/or outdoors.
• Work may be in non-air-conditioned rooms.
• Substance-free environment.
• Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.

Special qualifications desired include:

• Holding a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Iowa Teaching License with Coaching Endorsement.
• Experience with competition/success at the state level is desired.
