Position SummaryThe Field Engineer is responsible to engage in the day-to-day operations of insuring Metronet meets all compliance requirements for all pole attachment agreements. The position will be responsible for the walk off and inspection of aerial and underground plant compliance for pole attachments including main line construction and drop attachments. The Field Engineer will also oversee, the attachment corrections process by working with in-house and contract partners.
Responsibilities include conformance with Metronet, pole owners, local, state and federal standards and specifications.
- Preform pre-inspection audits of existing plant and service drop attachments.
- Assist in assigning work to in-house and/ or contract partners to correct any deficiencies.
- Perform post inspections of remediation work that has been completed and ensure plant and service drops are in compliance with construction and safety standards.
- Reports to and assist Compliance Manager in performing inspections and oversite of attachment inspection and correction projects.
- Review, analyze, and propose recommendations for outside plant construction and service drop activities for the purpose of correcting attachment issues.
- Oversee field construction and service drop activities, including quality assurance.
- Ensure on-site jobsite safety.
- Interact with Compliance Coordinator – verify completion of accurate production records.
- Maintain day-to-day communication with the contract partners, in-house and Field Ops compliance team.
- Produce quality results in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Represent Metronet professionally to our customers, pole owner representatives and internal Metronet OSP and Field Ops teams.
- Respond clearly and effectively to spoken requests over the phone or in person, and to verbal or written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Maintain regular, consistent, and professional attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance according to company policies.
- Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role.
- Adhere to company policies, regulations, procedures, and principles.
- Identifies, photographs and map detailed information of required facilities, including cables, poles, terminals, services drop, handholes, & other outside plant infrastructure.
- Capture accurate measurements of attachment heights, span distances, utility structures, & distances from existing/proposed OSP facilities to centerlines, property lines, and curb lines.
- Gathers notes on buried, aerial, and underground cable systems and OSP supporting structures as assigned.
- Complete field surveys, quality assurance, redlines, asset documentation, etc. to determine best routes.
- Identify power and communication facilities and ownership on utility poles.
- Record bonding, grounding, guying, and anchor information.
- Deliver detailed field notes & photographs.
- Identification of any potential violations and provide proposed corrective action.
- Be able to effectively utilize tools, such as measuring wheels, height sticks, pull finders, fiber splicer, & laser rangefinder.
