The Metallurgist will play a key role in developing, testing, and evaluating metals and alloys used in production, ensuring materials meet required specifications and performance standards.

This individual will collaborate closely with engineering, quality, machining, and production teams to troubleshoot material issues, improve heat‑treat and forging processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct metallurgical testing, including microstructure evaluation, hardness testing, tensile testing, and failure analysis.
  • Develop and maintain material specifications, heat‑treating parameters, and metallurgical process documentation.
  • Support root‑cause analysis for material or performance failures and provide corrective action recommendations.
  • Work closely with production to optimize metallurgical processes such as forging, machining, finishing, and heat treatment.
  • Review vendor material certifications, verify compliance, and communicate findings with internal teams.
  • Evaluate new materials, coatings, and processes to improve performance and manufacturability.
  • Monitor process capability and quality metrics related to metallurgy and materials performance.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams.
  • Ensure materials and processes meet industry standards and internal quality requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field (required).
  • Experience in manufacturing, metal processing, machining, heat treatment, or similar environments (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy principles, including phase transformations, alloy behavior, and failure mechanisms.
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment such as microscopes, hardness testers, and metallographic prep tools.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with ISO or other quality management systems is a plus.
