Reports To: Clinical Supervisor / Provider / Practice Manager
Position SummaryThe Medical Assistant (MA) supports physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and other clinical staff in delivering high-quality patient care within a private OB/GYN practice. The MA performs both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient office operations and excellent patient experience.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities- Room patients and obtain vital signs, height, weight, and medical history
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
- Assist providers during pelvic exams, procedures, and minor in-office surgeries
- Collect and process specimens (urine, blood, cultures, Pap tests, etc.)
- Perform CLIA-waived lab testing (pregnancy tests, urinalysis, etc.)
- Administer injections and vaccines as directed
- Provide patient education and follow-up instructions
- Clean and sterilize instruments and exam rooms
- Maintain exam room supplies and equipment
- Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Process prescription refills per protocol
- Schedule appointments and coordinate referrals
- Handle prior authorizations and insurance verification as needed
- Answer patient phone calls and respond to portal messages
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
- Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred
- Current CPR certification required
- OB/GYN experience preferred but not required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of women's health terminology and procedures
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Professional demeanor and patient-centered attitude
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Manual dexterity for clinical procedures
