About
The Role
A food service distribution company is looking for a VP of Purchasing to lead inventory procurement, vendor negotiations, and department leadership. This is a senior leadership seat, reporting directly to the President, with broad ownership across procurement operations, performance metrics, expense and revenue management, sales support, and regulatory compliance.

You’ll manage the product portfolio to meet customer demand while optimizing local and corporate revenue, conduct major product evaluations and demonstrations with key accounts, and play a central role in both retaining existing business and securing new accounts.
What You’ll Do- Manage inventory procurement, vendor negotiations, and department leadership, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management
- Maintain optimal inventory levels to support financial performance and cash flow
- Negotiate pricing and programs with suppliers and manage proprietary stock dispositions
- Serve as a primary point of contact for key accounts and suppliers
- Lead process improvement initiatives to maximize departmental efficiency
- Oversee secondary operational units such as internal logistics/freight control and specialized merchandising teams
- Direct marketing functions, including trade shows, promotional events, digital campaigns, sales incentives, product launches, and catalogs
- Lead strategic bid analyses for major accounts
- Collaborate with sales specialists, category managers, culinary professionals, and brand development leads to grow private-label and exclusive product lines
- Proven experience in inventory procurement, vendor negotiation, and supplier program management
- Experience leading and developing a department team
- Experience managing marketing functions including trade shows and product launches
- Experience with strategic bid analysis for major accounts
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience in food service distribution or a related industry
- Experience developing private-label or exclusive product lines
- Familiarity with freight and logistics management
140,000 to 160,000 per year. Standard benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401k, PTO).
