The Novelis Davenport team is seeking a Manufacturing Unit Manager to join the Novelis team. The person in this role will report to the Plant Manager. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the operational teams to perform as a world-class facility in Safety, Quality, and Efficiency. Responsibilities
  • Responsible for coordinating all Operational functions for their respective department(s).
  • Lead the safe, efficient, and continuous improvement of operations within various process functions of the plant
  • Managing and developing the employees within the process unit and meeting all key business objectives as set forth by the company.
  • Safely producing the short-term plan, making important policy and strategic decisions, as well as the development and implementations of operational policies and procedures.
  • Plan and direct required work activities and resources necessary to carry out all manufacturing unit processes in accordance with standing EHS practice to meet safety targets
  • Propose budget, approve expenditures for supplies, materials, and human resources, ensuring that all materials, labor and equipment are deployed efficiently and effectively to meet customer demand.
  • Ensure manufacturing excellence and drive continuous improvement activities within the facility
  • Ensure continuous improvement methodology, through the execution of projects and lean initiatives using NOS resources.
  • Oversee effective talent management practices which ensure proper staffing, training, performance management and individual development
  • Improve efficiency to increase production and reduce costs
Qualifications
  • Four-year engineering or technical degree and 5-10 years’ practical experience in line operations preferred.
  • Extensive experience in managing/supervising others in a complex and fast-paced manufacturing environment with demonstrated results.
  • Superior leadership, team building skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication verbal and written and follow‑up skills
  • Adept at conflict resolution and effective motivational techniques.
  • Excellent understanding of Melting, Continuous Casting, Hot Rolling, and process equipment. Must have the ability to troubleshoot and perform root‑cause analysis on equipment and process issues.
  • Ability to coordinate activities between various cross‑functional departments (e.g. production, maintenance, quality, supply chain, EHS, etc.)
  • Must understand cost and budgetary processes, inventory control procedures and methods, as well as operational procedures
  • Experience in implementing and supporting the business plan
  • Proficient in Computer Software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project
  • Demonstrate self‑knowledge and acts to continuously improve
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters in engineering
