Provide planned maintenance, safety testing, repairs, calibration, installation, routine service, and emergency service for general and specialized diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment
Perform preventive maintenance using manufacturer recommendations, standards, code requirements, and industry-accepted processes
Diagnose equipment problems using thermodynamic, electronic/electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other sciences
Document maintenance and corrective actions to meet regulatory and standards requirements
Notify equipment users, Clinical Engineering Managers, and the Regional Director about repair status and delays
Collaborate with clinical staff to resolve operational and scheduling issues while minimizing disruption to hospital departments
Determine replacement parts and supplies, select cost-effective sources, and submit parts requests
Complete corrective and planned maintenance work-order documentation
Order parts and supplies for emergency service or equipment repair within department guidelines
Recommend test equipment and spare parts to the Clinical Engineering Manager or Lead Technician
Provide rotating on-call coverage after normal business hours
Assist with and train Biomedical Equipment Technician I associates
Serve as Lead Biomedical Equipment Technician when assigned
Provide or coordinate in-service training for clinical and professional staff on medical device operation and safety
Maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, Trinity Health policies, and professional standards

Requirements
  • Associate of Applied Sciences degree in medical electronics, electronic technology, or a related field, including comparable military training or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CBET certification preferred
  • Three to five years of experience performing corrective and planned maintenance on medical devices and/or clinical support equipment
  • Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Working knowledge of basic hand tools and field-specific test equipment
  • Ability to train Clinical Engineering associates on selected test equipment
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, CAHO, EOC, FDA, and other regulations and standards applicable to clinical equipment service and repair
  • Ability to operate complex test equipment and analyze and interpret information to determine equipment condition
  • Basic understanding of personal computer operation and applications, including keyboard data entry
  • Ability to follow complex written instructions, perform tasks, and document actions
  • Strong customer-service communication skills for interacting with hospital personnel and vendors
  • Ability to provide or coordinate in-service training on medical device operation and safety
  • Ability to balance, bend, climb, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach, sit, squat, stand, twist, and walk
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds routinely and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to push or pull over 100 pounds frequently

    Ability to work safely in hazardous environments and follow OSHA guidelines
  • Ability to hear and distinguish sounds, speak, see at near and far distances, perceive depth, distinguish colors, and perform fine motor tasks
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to travel to Trinity Health facilities and training locations
