Shift: 12 Hour Night Shift

Provides and directs safe, effective, and culturally-competent patient care for mothers and infants. Key accountabilities include: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care using critical thinking and evidence-based practice; adherence to Professional Practice Standards as defined by ANA; and active participation in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities. When effective assessment skills, independent judgment, and critical thinking are evident, roles may expand to labor and delivery and/or transitional nursery.

• Assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care using critical thinking and evidence-based practice.
• Adhere to Professional Practice Standards as defined by ANA.
• Active participation in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities.
• Provide guidance, instruction, training, and direction to others (informal supervisory role).
• Coordinate and schedule staffing as needed.
• Maintain limited responsibility for material resources such as supplies, equipment, inventories, and small budgets.

  Co-workers/Health System Employees, Outside Agencies/Other Health Care Providers, General Public/Visitors/Volunteers, Physicians/Medical Office Staff, Students/Interns/Residents/Outside Instructors, Patients, Families, and Significant Others.

• Education:
  
  Associate's Degree in Nursing.
• Special Training: NRP within 6 months, Basic Life Support.
• Preferred:
  Clinical certification;
  Baccalaureate in Nursing.
• Licensure/Registration:
  Registered Nurse in Iowa;
  Registered Nurse in Illinois within 1 year.
• Experience:
  
  No experience required.

  Skills:
  
  Moderate communication, moderate difficulty, complex problem situations.
• Physical Demands:
  Very high intensity, lifting > 50 pounds, requires physical stamina, fatigue, fine dexterity, occasional high intensity demands 10-35% of the time.
• Working Conditions:
  
  Routine exposure to highly adverse environmental conditions, health and safety risks, personal risks require safety equipment or precautions, limited to 70% or less of the work day.
