RN – Progressive Care Stepdown Unit (3rd Shift)

Employment Type: Full time
Shift: 12 Hour Night Shift (7:00PM–7:30AM)

Purpose

Provides and directs safe, effective, and culturally‑competent care for inpatient patients from adolescent through aging adult cardiovascular patients. Key accountabilities include assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care using critical thinking and evidence‑based practice; adherence to Professional Practice Standards as defined by ANA; and active participation in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities
  • Perform assessment, diagnosis, and care planning for cardiovascular patients.
  • Implement treatment plans and evaluate patient outcomes.
  • Use critical thinking and evidence‑based practice in clinical decisions.
  • Participate in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities.
  • Coordinate patient care with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers.
  • Provide informal supervisory support as a group leader or assistant supervisory role.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (required).
  • Registered Nurse license in Iowa or Illinois (required; within one year for IL).
  • Basic Life Support; ACLS within six months of hire (required).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Moderate interpersonal and communication skills.
Working Conditions
  • Exposure to highly adverse environmental conditions, physical hazards, health and safety risks, and other undesirable characteristics (≤70% of workday).
  • Possible exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.
Supervision and Relationships
  • Report to:
    Manager.
  • Informal supervisory responsibilities including scheduling and guidance.
  • Collaborate with co‑workers, health system employees, outside agencies, physicians, medical office staff, students, interns, residents, patients, families, and visitors.
