Job Description
As a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse), you will support the daily operations of a plasma donation center by ensuring donor safety and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Determine donor eligibility to donate plasma.
- Manage donor adverse events.
- Review laboratory test results and notify donors of unsuitable test results.
- Operate under guidance of the Center Manager for operational support.
- Work under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues.
- Familiarize with plasma collection industry regulations or manufacturing environment.
- Provide center‑level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS) following Bio Life Medical Affairs guidance.
- Determine donor eligibility including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self‑exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing serological protein electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions as outlined in the SOPs.
- Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies and coordinate donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or medical/technical guidance.
- Support Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Manage employee incidents; determine if additional evaluation is required by occupational health or ER and refer to EHS guidance.
- Serve as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
- High school diploma or equivalent to a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
- Current license or certification in the state where responsibilities will be assigned (LPN or LVN).
- Current CPR and AED certification.
- Fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Completion of FDA‑approved training for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- At least two years in a clinical or hospital setting.
