Responsibilities
  • Assist with supervision of all phases of the football program – planning, strategy, instruction in fundamentals, and so forth.
  • Responsible for care and issuance of all football equipment used by the team.
  • Communicate with high school coaching staff and attend meetings or mini‑clinics at high schools to ensure continuity in the DCSD 7‑12 grade boys' football program.
  • Understand, monitor and enforce district academic standards, policies and eligibility requirements.
  • Develop players to their fullest potential, starting with the basic fundamentals of the game of football and progressing to skills beyond what is considered average.
  • Understand and promote good sportsmanship among student‑athletes.
  • Complete required reports and record accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of and be responsible for the athletic policy approved by the Board of Education.
  • Supervise players at all practices and games, as well as in the locker room and on the bus.
  • Possess an enthusiastic attitude and ability to understand intermediate‑aged youth in an athletic setting.
  • Adhere to Excellence in Athletics standards and expectations and operate as an integral part of the West High School football program.
  • Work in cooperation with the building Activity Director and with the Director of Athletics for the Davenport Community Schools.
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.
  • Support and implement Davenport's multi‑tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students and families to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
  • Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure successful performance of the duties.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to demonstrate basketball positions and techniques to the players.
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull 50 lbs.
Special Qualifications Desired
  • Must possess a valid Iowa coaching endorsement.
  • Successful football coaching experience is preferred.
  • Must be available for evenings.
  • Completion and submission of NFHS Online Concussion Course.
  • Successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students and their families to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
