Athletics Coach
- Assist with supervision of all phases of the football program – planning, strategy, instruction in fundamentals, and so forth.
- Responsible for care and issuance of all football equipment used by the team.
- Communicate with high school coaching staff and attend meetings or mini‑clinics at high schools to ensure continuity in the DCSD 7‑12 grade boys' football program.
- Understand, monitor and enforce district academic standards, policies and eligibility requirements.
- Develop players to their fullest potential, starting with the basic fundamentals of the game of football and progressing to skills beyond what is considered average.
- Understand and promote good sportsmanship among student‑athletes.
- Complete required reports and record accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of and be responsible for the athletic policy approved by the Board of Education.
- Supervise players at all practices and games, as well as in the locker room and on the bus.
- Possess an enthusiastic attitude and ability to understand intermediate‑aged youth in an athletic setting.
- Adhere to Excellence in Athletics standards and expectations and operate as an integral part of the West High School football program.
- Work in cooperation with the building Activity Director and with the Director of Athletics for the Davenport Community Schools.
- Other duties as assigned by administration.
- Support and implement Davenport's multi‑tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students and families to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
- Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure successful performance of the duties.
- Able to demonstrate basketball positions and techniques to the players.
- Able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift, push, or pull 50 lbs.
- Must possess a valid Iowa coaching endorsement.
- Successful football coaching experience is preferred.
- Must be available for evenings.
- Completion and submission of NFHS Online Concussion Course.
- Successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students and their families to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
