Position Summary
Responsible for creating and overseeing a safe, engaging, and spiritually enriching environment for children, ages birth through fifth grade. This role focuses on teaching children to worship and experiencing God’s presence so that they value personal participation in worship as they grow into independent adults.
Qualifications/RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Minimum Qualifications- A bachelor’s degree in education, Ministry, or related field preferred.
- Demonstrates a deep understanding and commitment to United Methodist practices and Wesleyan theology
- Experience working with children in a ministry or educational setting with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role
- Proficient with basic office software and ministry management tools
- Excellent time management and communications skills with the ability to multi-task
- Affirms DUMC’s core beliefs, vision, mission, and values as evidenced by attitude and behavior
- Develops and implements age-appropriate children’s programs and events that align with the church’s mission
- Oversees Preschool Director, Sunday school, children’s worship services, vacation Bible school, children’s camps, and other special events
- Identifies, recruits, and trains volunteers to lead children’s ministry programs
- Addresses safety concerns and work with church staff to maintain a safe environment for children
- Upholds safe sanctuary policies and provides education to parents, volunteers, and staff
- Maintains effective communication with parents, volunteers, and staff regarding programs, events, and needs, and addresses any concerns
- Partners with parents and guardians in the spiritual development of their children, offering resources, guidance, and support
- Provides regular updates to parents through newsletters, emails, and other communication methods
- Collaborates with other ministry leaders on church-wide initiatives and events so that children feel integrated into the wider church community
- Reports on the progress, growth, and needs of the children’s ministry to senior leadership
