Creative Nonfiction and Literature of the Sciences
The Department of English at Davidson College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Creative Nonfiction and the Literature of the Sciences at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2027. An M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Creative Writing is expected by the date of appointment, along with a strong record of publication in creative nonfiction. Undergraduate teaching experience is preferred.
Davidson is particularly interested in candidates dedicated to undergraduate teaching and to a sustained creative practice.
The teaching load is five courses per year (four in the first year): two sections of Introductory Creative Nonfiction, one section of Advanced Creative Nonfiction, and two courses in the Literature of the Sciences: courses in which students read and write about the sciences from a literary perspective, in the area of the professor's expertise. Recent and possible offerings include Nature Writing, Illness Narratives, Science and Scandal, Writing Biology, and The Literature of Scientific Discoveries.
Such courses may be cross-listed or affiliated with programs including Biology, Environmental Studies, Public Health, and History, depending on the candidate's interests. Interest in teaching podcasting or other new-media nonfiction forms is welcome.
