About the Role
Trane Technologies is hiring a Senior Category Manager who will directly manage Tier 2 sub‑categories of the Electronic Controls Category. This critical procurement role oversees a large, complex scope of responsibilities within the assigned category, acting as a subject‑matter expert to own strategy, supply base, and performance while staying current on market trends and conditions.
Responsibilities- Manage Tier 2 component cost, supplier relationships, risk (supply chain, materials, design, quality) and strategy development, alignment, and execution for the Electronic Controls Category.
- Identify, engage, and align with internal stakeholders to capture category requirements and ensure supplier qualification and quality.
- Partner with business unit Procurement teams to efficiently transition suppliers as needed and support region/sector New Product Development (NPD) procurement through preferred supplier programs.
- Develop and execute detailed category strategy, expanding the Preferred Supplier Program and segmentation based on business needs and procurement principles.
- Assess opportunities for commodity including spend segmentation, commodity maturity, cost drivers, and supply market analysis.
- Manage contract lifecycle and compliance; ensure supply continuity and deliver best total value through RFx activities, supplier selection, and negotiation.
- Actively monitor and mitigate supplier risk, including financial, capacity, quality, and compliance.
- Lead cost management initiatives through price analysis, value analysis, and continuous improvement projects.
- Oversee Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) and conduct regular supplier reviews for all strategic suppliers.
- Facilitate quarterly business reviews and key supplier meetings, while ensuring creation of supplier profiles for all SRM suppliers.
- Develop sourcing strategy for commodity detailing projects, sourcing levers, timing, resources, and expected benefits.
- Maintain commodity continuity of supply by engaging with plants and key stakeholders to resolve escalated issues and secure supplier capacity.
- Support development of enterprise systems and data analytics tools to enhance strategy development, cost management, and risk mitigation.
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- 5+ years of procurement, strategic sourcing, engineering design, or application engineering experience with large‑scale, complex, and/or regional/global categories of spend.
- Demonstrated success in assessing, negotiating, and managing vendors.
- Collaborative facilitation, consultation, and conflict resolution skills; trusted business partner capable of influencing within a highly matrixed environment.
- Professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Preferred:
Experience or background in PCBA or electronic systems design, application/sales engineering, or procurement of electronic controls and PCBA components/interconnects. Relevant industry experience includes HVAC, gensets, compressors, pumps, factory automation, building control systems, automotive/transportation + EV, off‑highway transportation, marine electronics, refrigeration, panel design/building, applications engineering, electrical component sales/distribution, and power electronics.
- Annual base salary range: $ – $ (salaried).
