Brief Position SummaryThe Assistant Credit Manager coordinates with credit leadership to support sales by managing an ageing portfolio of assigned accounts. The role involves monitoring metrics, maintaining credit guidelines, reconciling, collecting, working with the sales team, and providing risk assessment on assigned portfolios while ensuring world‑class internal and external customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities- Manage the day‑to‑day operation of an assigned $75M+ credit portfolio through effective review of metrics and close supervision of staff activity daily.
- Reconcile and collect on aging portfolios for Government and Resellers, and provide support for Canada and acquisitions.
- Reconcile and collect on a mid‑level customer portfolio that includes smaller enterprise accounts and some larger core accounts.
- Oversee the manual billing function and any outside third‑party partners who support this function.
- Perform all duties inherent in the role of an MSC Assistant Manager, including hiring, termination, performance reviews, APLs, and associate development.
- Prepare departmental reports including collection reports, associate metric reports, review/release statistics, severe debt reports, and risk management reports.
- Drive the MSC Culture within the department and throughout the company to ensure unity of purpose and fulfillment of the MSC mission statement.
- Coordinate with credit and sales leadership to implement process improvements in the O2C stream related to billing, risk, and account collections.
- Ensure compliance and monthly sign‑off as required by internal audit and E&Y, including periodic review and updates to SOWs.
- Conduct monthly and quarterly meetings as required.
- Take full ownership of month‑end reconciliation and reporting processes for assigned portfolios.
- Provide daily readouts and reports to ensure targets and incentives are achieved.
- Perform monthly APLs and coach and train associates on policies and procedures.
- Foster the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC's vision and unity of purpose.
- Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required.
- A bachelor’s degree in business, or equivalent experience in credit/collections.
- Minimum of five years’ experience within operational accounting and/or credit and collections.
- Minimum of five years’ experience managing, training, coaching, and supporting a credit team.
- Broad‑based business knowledge in accounting, credit, collections, and bankruptcy knowledge in reclamation and preference claims.
- Accurately assesses strengths and development areas of team members to provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and recognition.
- Working knowledge of SAP, Duns & Bradstreet, Equifax, or Experian is desired.
- Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong presentation and communication skills with customers and sales representatives.
- Strong interest in process development and system enhancements.
- Ability to build credibility by openly and regularly sharing appropriate information with others.
- Knowledge of financial risk analysis.
- A valid driver’s license may be required.
- Position requires up to 5% travel.
The salary range for this position is $63,420 – $95,516, depending on location and experience. Compensation is based on candidate qualifications and community market rates.
