The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

** Description of Work
** The Assistant Judicial District Manager may work a reduced CPPO caseload and assist the Judicial District Manager in managing a judicial district. Position may serve as lead interviewer for vacant positions and will supervise a part of the unit to include direct line supervision of CPPO's and clerical personnel. Position will perform audits of CPPO's and conduct training of new CPPO's which includes but is not limited to assigning cases, coordinating workflow and schedules.

Position will be involved with disciplinary, dispute and employee performance management and will assist with conducting internal investigations. Incumbent is responsible for various reports to include but not limited to firearm inspections and inventory.
The incumbent must have the ability to:

• Target the offenders’ needs to ensure quality supervision and appropriate swift and certain responses to noncompliance   
• Analyze a situation and provide an immediate solution   
• Develop professional alliances and establish and maintain effective working relationships with officers, offenders, judicial officials, law enforcement officers, community agencies, the general public, and co-workers   
• Express oneself clearly in oral and written form   
• Demonstrate pro-social skill building and problem solving   
• Establish an appropriate course of action to ensure completion of assigned duties within given time frames   
• Maintain a calm and rational composure when dealing with difficult situations and individuals and exhibit the ability to focus on the task at hand   
• Apply hands-on experience gained in areas such as evidence-based cognitive-behavioral intervention tools, delegated authority, specialty caseload management, and sustainability teams    This role requires frequent travel, including occasional overnight stays. The candidate must be able to legally and safely operate a motor vehicle for work-related tasks, including during long hours both day and night, and in adverse weather conditions.

* Working knowledge of subordinate staff positions, and DAC/DCS goals, objectives and policy
* Working knowledge of the NC General Statutes, Post-release Supervision and Parole Commission, and Institutions
* Hands-on experience with case planning, structured intervention worksheets and delegated authority; working knowledge of structured sentencing, evidence-based practices, JRA, and motivational interviewing
* Experience expressing ideas effectively and clearly in written and verbal communication
