Department Summary:The Statewide IPM Program is a part of the Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The unit administers a program in integrated pest management research and extension, including a team of Cooperative Extension Advisors, an Urban and Community IPM team, a Communications team, an IT/Production team, and Pesticide Safety Education Program. The Program supports research and extension in agricultural and urban IPM.

This position is part of the UC Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program (UC IPM) Communications Team, which works closely with other units in UC IPM, including the Urban and Community IPM team, Pesticide Safety and Education Program, and IT/Production Team. Working with UC ANR, industry, and agency experts, the Writer Editor develops and produces a wide range of informational products about integrated pest management (IPM) for pest management practitioners across California.
These products are distributed in print or online and are prepared as part of a series or as stand‑alone products.
Under the direction of the Content Development Supervisor, the employee will write, edit, review, and coordinate the development and production of IPM extension publications, multimedia communication products, and web‑based tools. The Writer Editor 3 will also write clear, accurate content explaining IPM strategies based on expert input, select appropriate visuals to describe IPM methods, organize and facilitate meetings with stakeholders, coordinate expert reviews and evaluate project products, and travel occasionally throughout the state to participate in training events and collaborate with subject matter experts.
This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.
Home Office Location – The selected candidate may choose a location at one of the UCCE County Offices across the state (), contingent upon space availability and approval of the County Director.
The home department is the Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program. While this position is normally based at Davis, CA (or the selected UCCE County Office location), this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements, for applicants living in the State of California, at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University.
Pay Scale:$68,500/year to $95,200/year (salary pay scale based on Davis location)

Key Responsibilities:- 70%:
Researches, Writes, & Develops Extension Products that Describe IPM Methods and Lead to IPM Adoption- Coordinates the development and maintenance of extension publications and products (Pest Management Guidelines, including year‑round IPM programs and general information pages, online galleries, identification cards, online tutorials, instructional videos, and online training).
- Gathers, edits, and writes new information or revises existing information for extension publications and products using written research and communicating with scientists. Researches and compiles visuals: images, line drawings, photographs, graphs, tables. Assures that selected visuals have appropriate permissions for UC IPM use. Consults with users for improvement feedback.
- Data entry to support the UC IPM website.
- Coordinates publication and product release with the production team.
- Coordinates the IPM review process with ANR experts.
- Identifies improvements for communicating scientific information, using suitable language levels, presentation, illustrations, etc., for multiple audiences. Identifies and resolves accessibility barriers to ensure that UC IPM communication products meet ADA accessibility standards.
