Job Summary

Under the direction of the Surgical Services Supervisor and the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service Chief, provide specialized technical support to the Dentistry Service. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, safely restraining patients for oral examinations; collecting samples for diagnostic laboratory testing; preparing and setting up operating rooms; serving as an operating room circulating technician; maintaining specialized dental and surgical equipment;

and training students and residents in technical procedures such as blood collection and IV catheter placement. Responsible for general duties including set up, circulate and clean up for various dental procedures in both the dentistry suite and the operating room. Cleaning and processing of dental instruments and packs. Perform and administer treatments per clinician orders. Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members to support and advance the objectives of the Surgery Services.

Recruitment

Period One Month

Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
- For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Must possess a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) or obtain within 3 months of date of hire.
  • No minimum education required.
  • Experience working in a veterinary hospital environment with small animals.
  • Experience in calculating and administering medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscular or orally.
  • Experience with surgical asepsis and how it relates to direct contamination of patients, instruments and sterile supplies.
  • Experience performing standard hospital sanitation/disinfection protocols.
  • Skills to use medical and dental terminology, and knowledge of basic dental disease processes and dental procedures.
  • Skill to clean, wrap and sterilize instruments and packs and perform sterile techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to engage effectively with diverse students, staff, clinicians, and clients and the skill to recognize and manage difficult situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) License.
  • Experience maintaining equipment in proper working order.
  • Skill to aseptically set up an operating room with instruments and equipment.
  • Knowledge of dental radiographic techniques and safety.
