Position Overview
The Department of Animal Science at UC Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Poultry Science with a preferred emphasis in immunology, nutrition, genetics, or physiology. This is a 9‑month tenure‑track position, including an appointment in the California Agricultural Experiment Station (AES). Faculty with an AES appointment conduct research and outreach relevant to the mission of the station.
Salary Range$105,700 – $129,600 annual. Off‑scale salaries and other pay components are offered when needed to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program in Poultry Science addressing critical or emerging issues in poultry production, health, and well‑being, using innovative strategies such as single‑cell sequencing, genome‑wide CRISPR screens, genome editing, AI and machine learning.
Teaching loads are approximately 2.5 courses per year, including avian‑related courses (e.g., AVS
103, AVS
150, AVS
121, ANS
143) and a large undergraduate Animal Science course (ANS 123). The faculty member will mentor graduate students and contribute to departmental and university service.
Responsibilities include research, teaching, outreach, and service. Outreach programs and performance of university service are expected, and the appointee will collaborate with Cooperative Extension specialists and community stakeholders.
Qualifications- Ph.D. or equivalent in Poultry Science, Avian Science, Animal Science, Animal Biology, or related field.
- Post‑doctoral experience is preferred.
- Evidence of leadership, scholarship, and ability to secure extramural support.
- Demonstrated potential to develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses and to communicate to scientific audiences.
- Willingness to advise undergraduates and mentor M.S. and Ph.D. students.
- Effective communication skills and collegiality.
- Commitment to the mission of a land‑grant university and the AES, including outreach.
