Position descriptionThe Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), in the College of Engineering at UC Davis, invites applications for a qualified temporary instructor to teach a Fall quarter course. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed.
Fall 2026: September 21, 2026 - December 11, 2026
Anticipated appointment is 33% per quarter per course.
Applicants must be able to teach a course on Aspects of Medical Device Design and Manufacturing. Course
Description:
Survey of medical device design & impact on manufacturing operations. Introduction to medical device design process & product lifecycle. Principles of Design for Manufacturability, Design for Lean Manufacturing, and quality management systems. The applicant is expected to teach one section on Davis campus and another section in Aggie Square on Sacramento campus.
The duties will include (but are not limited to) teaching or co‑teaching a course including lecturing, holding office hours, grading and administering exams and coursework, course preparation, holding discussion or lab sections and additional duties as needed.
Required materials include a curriculum vitae, cover letter, statement of teaching, and contact information for 3-5 references.
The University will not offer sponsorship for this position. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they are legally authorized to work in the United States.
Salary and appointment level will be commensurate with experience and percentage of appointment. The positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement (Unit 18).
This offer is contingent upon you clearing an Employment Misconduct Disclosure review where you will be required to disclose any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that you committed any misconduct and provide information related to investigations and appeals.
QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at time of application)
- Applicants must have an advanced degree or PhD degree in the relevant field.
- Applicants must have demonstrated teaching experience and advanced degrees in medical device industry.
Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)
- Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering or a closely related field; significant knowledge of the medical device industry, including medical device design, manufacturing processes, standards, and regulatory knowledge.
- A demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education in biomedical engineering.
- A record of effective and innovative teaching.
