Position descriptionThe University of California, Davis invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of African American, African Diaspora and/or African Studies to begin July 1, 2026. Candidates’ research should be within African American, African Diasporic, and/or African studies, with a track record in one or more of the following areas: a) Agriculture and Environment; b) Science and Technology Studies; c) Legal studies.
Disciplinary field within Social Sciences or Humanities is open, with a preference for comparative and applied social sciences and policy. The successful candidate should complement the strengths and goals of the African American and African Studies Department at UC Davis. Applicants must hold the Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field. A salary range of $109,300 to $130,600 is provided, inclusive of the salary scale and off-scale components.
We seek a scholar with an innovative publication profile or strong promise of scholarly productivity, and a commitment to teaching excellence at undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should demonstrate readiness for departmental/university collaboration as appropriate to rank. A record of publication is preferred, appropriate to rank. Our department is multidisciplinary, offering an undergraduate major and minor, and a graduate Designated Emphasis.
Faculty may seek affiliation with several graduate groups within the College.
