Position description

The Department of Comparative Literature at the University of California, Davis invites applicants for a Unit 18 Lecturer position for the  academic year. Field of specialization is open, although demonstrated ability to teach global literature in the contemporary period, along with significant expertise in teaching college composition, are ideal. Successful candidates will demonstrate competence teaching literature and theory relevant to understanding today's world.

Assignment of classes, hours of instruction, and office hours are at the discretion of the department. Classes are held Monday-Friday, normally between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Salary is commensurate with education, qualifications, and experience and a reasonable estimate for this position is $70,980 to $77,561 based on a full-time 100% appointment. This appointment is renewable contingent on department teaching needs and demonstration of excellence in teaching.

Shared office space, access to the campus library, copier, and computer facilities will be provided. This appointment is renewable contingent on program teaching needs and funding.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD in hand at the time of appointment; expertise in a relevant subfield of Comparative Literature; experience designing and delivering writing-intensive courses; and excellence in teaching.
