Salary Range

Assistant Professor (9‑month, tenure‑track) in the Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, University of California, Davis. The role focuses on mycology, plant‑pathogenic, symbiotic, or mycotoxigenic fungi and fungal‑like organisms (e.g., oomycetes). Candidates should have a strong background in mycology and/or the biology of fungi and fungal‑like organisms that interact with plants.
Responsibilities- Develop a world‑class, externally funded research program that integrates fundamental and applied aspects of fungal biology within plant pathology.
- Conduct mission‑oriented research and outreach/engagement relevant to the California Agricultural Experiment Station.
- Teach Introductory Mycology, an upper‑division lab class, and SAS 30:
Mushroom, Molds & Society (general education for non‑majors). Additional teaching may be assigned. - Mentor graduate students, advise undergraduates, and participate in curricular development and outreach programs.
- Perform departmental and university service and collaborate with extension educators and allied industry partners.
Basic qualifications (required)
- Ph.D. in plant pathology, mycology, microbiology, or a related field with experience, interest, and coursework related to fungal biology relevant to plant systems. Degree must be awarded by start of appointment.
Preferred qualifications (not required)
- Postdoctoral experience.
- Evidence of leadership and organizational skills for developing a successful research, teaching, and outreach program.
- Evidence of scholarship during graduate and post‑graduate activities.
- Record of productivity in research, evidenced by publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Demonstrated or potential to obtain extramural support for research.
- Demonstrated ability or potential to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses and present to scientific audiences.
- Willingness to advise undergraduates and mentor M.S. and Ph.D. students.
- Evidence of communication skills and collegiality.
- Commitment to the objectives of a land‑grant university and the Agricultural Experiment Station, including mission‑oriented research and outreach.
