Description

The City of Chandler Cultural Development Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Museum Education and Public Programs Coordinator. The position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Tuesday through Friday with regular weekend work on both Saturdays and Sundays, never more than every other weekend. The Chandler Museum is a cultural destination with engaging, community-focused programs and forums, as well as world‑class in‑house and traveling exhibits.

The City of Chandler Cultural Development Department showcases destination drivers in Chandler through the Chandler Center for the Arts, Chandler Museum, Downtown, Public Art, Special Events, Connection and Impact, and Vision Gallery.

Who We Are Looking For

Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are seeking an experienced education leader to create and oversee inclusive, engaging learning opportunities for children, families, adults, and school groups while ensuring program excellence through staff development and data‑driven evaluation.

Essential Functions
  • Supervises and oversees the daily operations of the assigned area by setting goals and objectives, managing schedules and work priorities, monitoring and evaluating performance, facilitating access to resources and training, providing guidance and addressing issues, conducting interviews and making hiring decisions.
  • Assists the Museum Manager and the Museum Senior Program Manager with program development and implementation in the area of assignment along with the development of the Museum’s Strategic plan as well as planning and implementing programs.
  • Works collaboratively with other institutions and community partners.
  • Researches and develops written materials and presentations for educational programs and exhibits.
Museum Education And Public Programs Coordinator
  • Oversee, develop program curricula and learning goals for all public‑facing (pre‑k, child, family and adult) programs at all museum facilities. Conceptualize, plan, and execute educational activities, including school group visits, summer camps, workshops, and public programs that align with museum exhibitions.
  • Develop and oversee field trip programs for all museum facilities in conjunction with local school district representatives.
  • Oversee the development of interactive aspects of exhibitions (e.g., interpretive materials) and ensure programs align with educational objectives.
  • Analyze visitor feedback and program effectiveness to report findings to stakeholders and improve future programming.
  • Manage, train, and schedule education staff, educators, docents, and interns, including hiring and conducting performance evaluations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Standard museum operating procedures including exhibit planning, development and implementation as well as proper methods of storing, cleaning and processing a variety of specimens or artifacts; collections management practices.
  • Develop and implement educational programming for both children and adults; knowledge and appreciation for City history; marketing strategies and public relations;
    English grammar, spelling and punctuation; fundraising and preparation of grant applications.
  • Understand and abide by Federal OSHA, State and County regulations and city policies regarding risk management and safe work practices.
  • Demonstrate supervisory skill and performance evaluation; use logical and creative processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions; coordinate a variety of tasks simultaneously; operate a personal computer and related software.
  • Operate a motor vehicle and abide by traffic laws and rules.
  • Follow and generate oral and written instructions and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Present a positive public image and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and the public.
