Position description

The Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior, in the College of Biological Sciences, University of California, Davis, invites applications for a Lecturer position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Unit 18 Lecturer in Anatomy is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate-level human anatomy courses within the Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior (or related department) at the University of California, Davis. The lecturer delivers high-quality instruction in anatomical sciences through lectures, laboratory sessions, demonstrations, and student-centered learning activities. Key responsibilities include developing and presenting course materials; teaching gross anatomy, functional anatomy, and related biological sciences concepts;

facilitating laboratory instruction using cadaveric specimens, anatomical models, digital imaging, and educational technologies; creating and grading examinations and assignments; maintaining regular office hours; mentoring students; and supporting student learning and academic success. The lecturer is expected to apply current scientific knowledge and evidence-based teaching practices to foster student engagement and achievement. The position requires collaboration with faculty, teaching assistants, laboratory staff, and administrative personnel to ensure the effective delivery of anatomy curricula.

Additional responsibilities may include curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes, participation in departmental meetings, and contributions to instructional improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Master's degree in Anatomy or a closely related STEM discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in human anatomy and anatomical sciences.
  • Experience teaching or assisting in college-level science courses.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

  • Experience with cadaveric instruction, anatomical dissection, or anatomy laboratory management.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence and commitment to student success.

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

  • Prior experience teaching anatomy at a university level.
