Davids Engineering (DE) is enthusiastically pursuing exceptionally qualified and motivated candidates with experience in civil, hydraulic, and structural design, agricultural engineering, and construction management to join our growing team in DE’s Davis or Oakdale office. All DE team members are expected to have superior analytic and problem-solving skills; ability to express technically complex information clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to self-motivate;
attention to detail; strong work ethic; and good moral, ethical judgement. Familiarity with agricultural irrigation and SGMA knowledge is a major plus.
The anticipated pay range for this position is between $104,000 and $166,400 depending on qualifications.
Responsibilities generally include, but are not limited to:- Strategic project planning, workflow development, technical analysis, and project management and delivery.
- Effectively plan, manage, and execute work involving civil and agricultural engineering principles and other related activities for new and existing agricultural or environmental water conveyance, control, storage, and management projects.
- Synthesize complex engineering topics, results, and project information into reports, studies, specifications, detailed design drawings, models, and other technical deliverables.
- Prepare and make presentations to clients and stakeholders.
- Evaluate project and client requirements to select and apply appropriate workflows, engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to manage and execute projects such that objectives are met.
- Lead technical and non-technical teams in planning and/or designing engineering projects and coordinate special planning, economic, and engineering studies.
- Direct the work of and communicate effectively with project teams including other engineering disciplines, specialty consultants, clients, staff, and stakeholders.
- Perform construction management duties and coordinate with subordinate field staff to oversee quality assurance programs, verify compliance with designs, and manage project changes.
- Delegate and oversee the work of subordinate staff.
- Assist with business development pursuits, as requested.
- Position may require travel, off-site field visits, and overnight stays.
- Most working hours will be at a desk in front of a computer.
- Required: 5 years+ of progressively increasing experience in water-related design, engineering, and construction.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering (Civil, Agricultural, Mechanical, or similar).
- Professional engineer (PE) license in the State of California, or commitment to obtain CA licensure within 18 months of hire.
- Proficiency with CIVIL3D, Excel, GIS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with design software such as Enercalc, Water
CAD, and HECRAS. - Experience with (or connection to) irrigated agriculture.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with a diverse project team and colleagues in both in-person and virtual settings.
- Ability to identify and proactively communicate and resolve potential issues with the project team.
- Proficiency with hydraulic analysis and design principles for gravity flow and pressurized pipelines, canals, concrete sections, and natural channels.
- Pump station design experience, including operation and maintenance considerations.
- Competent and skilled in developing cost estimates for consulting services and construction projects.
- Familiarity with common irrigation district infrastructure, governance, and operating requirements.
- Understanding of flow measurement principles, methods, and equipment.
- Applied experience and proficiency with standard civil engineering design processes.
- Familiarity with structural design requirements.
- Familiarity with CEQA/NEPA and permitting processes.
- Prior experience serving in a field engineer, inspector, or resident engineer role during construction.
- Understanding of processes associated with RFIs, submittals, change orders, progress payments, inspection and daily reporting, and project close-out.
