Job Summary
Under direction of the Anatomic Pathology Service Manager, the Histology Supervisor oversees daily operations of the histology laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow, quality assurance, staff training, and high‑level technical consultation. The role performs the full range of histology technician duties—including processing, embedding, sectioning, and preparation of tissue samples for routine, special, and immunohistochemical staining—and serves as a key liaison among laboratory staff, faculty, residents, clinicians, and researchers.
It supports both diagnostic and research services and rotates monthly to perform special stains, immunohistochemistry, research projects, and other specialized procedures.

- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three (3) years of experience in a diagnostic histology laboratory, including operation of a microtome, tissue processing, embedding, and staining (special stains and IHC).
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including team building, coaching/mentoring, and the ability to motivate and engage staff.
- Knowledge of histology techniques, laboratory regulations, and quality control procedures.
- Ability to follow detailed written protocols and SOPs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to interact effectively with diverse groups including faculty, clinicians, students, and staff.
- Effective and proactive problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), or equivalent experience/training.
- At least one (1) year of supervisory experience in a veterinary diagnostic histology laboratory, including staff recruitment, workload delegation, conflict resolution, and performance evaluations.
- In‑depth understanding of histology laboratory operations, equipment, reagents, and handling of animal tissues from a wide range of species.
- Salary Range: $69,600 – $124,200 annually
