Director of Development, Regional Development; FUNDRAISER

Job Summary

The Director of Development is an advanced fundraising professional with expertise in regional frontline development such as major gifts. The role independently performs the full range of responsibilities of a university development officer, analyzes problems of diverse scope, and plans, organizes, and directs fundraising campaigns with major impact on program goals. The position focuses on donors capable of giving $50K or more, building and managing an active portfolio, and fostering new and existing donor relationships in key regions across the country.

Guided by a donor-centered approach, the incumbent will strategically solicit gifts and steward existing ones using in-person and virtual methods, including video, texting, phone, and social media, and will involve travel to secure meetings with donors and prospective donors. This position is metric-driven and aligned with an annual business plan for the assigned portfolio, and works both independently and as part of a large, matrix organization.

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Advanced professional frontline fundraising experience with 3+ years of professional or volunteer fundraising experience, or equivalent transferable experience including strategic relationship development and portfolio management.
• Knowledge of development and fundraising techniques: prospect identification research, evaluation of historic gift data, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship, with proven success in major gift fundraising ($50K+).
• Demonstrated success soliciting and securing philanthropic gifts and developing strategic donor relationships.
• Expert political acumen to establish and maintain working relationships at all organizational levels and with external constituencies.
• Experience conceiving, writing, and editing fundraising presentations, case statements, and proposals; strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Commitment to inclusion and a safe, collaborative workforce; ability to work with diverse campus constituencies.
• Extensive major gift development experience, including knowledge of estate and planned gifts, gifts of securities, real property, and in-kind gifts.
• Experience managing a regionally based development portfolio; volunteer management experience; familiarity with Advance database a plus.
