Position: Neurology/Neurosurgery After hours/Weekend Technician (ANML HEALTH TCHN 3 VMTH)

Job Summary

Independent of supervision in a hospital setting, as a significant part of daily duties, responsible for treatment of patients with life-threatening illness or injury, whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis and inducing and monitoring anesthesia. Under the direction of the Small Animal Neurology Supervisor and the Neurology/Neurosurgery Service Chief, provide technical support to the Neurology/Neurosurgery service. Responsibilities include but are not limited to anesthesia induction, anesthesia monitoring, surgical preparation for various procedures, circulation in the operating room, training of various technical skills to students or residents, patient treatments, diagnostic sample collection and performing technical skills such as IV catheter placement, blood draws, urinary catheter placement.

Additional responsibilities include client communication and education, patient admission and discharge, and working cooperatively with others to foster strong team commitments towards achieving Neurology service objectives.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH:

Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Qualifications
  • Must possess a California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license or hold a current license in another state and obtain a CA RVT license within 3 months from the date of hire.
  • No minimum education required.
  • Experience to independently provide treatment of patients whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis.
  • Experience calculating drug dosages and administering medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscular or orally.
  • Experience performing venipuncture, placing vascular catheters, inducing anesthesia, monitoring anesthesia, and recovering patients from anesthesia, working independently with and without direct supervision.
  • Experience in aseptic technique, surgical clipping and patient preparation, and circulation in an O.R.
  • Experience to recognize normal and abnormal parameters for patients and how to respond accordingly.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to engage effectively with diverse students, staff, clinicians, and clients and the skill to recognize and manage difficult situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in aseptic technique and circulation in an OR.
  • Experience in a clinical hospital setting with various species performing sedation and anesthesia.
